چکیده

Corynebacterium renale type I (strain 115), 1.7 x 107 to 4.5 x 107 organisms, introduced intravenously into mice disappeared from the blood less than 24 h after inoculation and did not produce pyelonephritis. The same strain, 1 x 107 to 5 x 107 organisms, inoculated into the urinary bladder of mice was not recovered from the blood in any of the mice, but caused pyelonephritis accompanied by ureteritis and cystitis in 16 of 21 (76%) mice. Pyelonephritis and cystitis in mice were histopathologically similar to those found in cows. The antibody response

Pyelonephritis XV. Long-term study of ascending Escherichia coli pyelonephritis in mice.

Keane and Freedman (1) demonstrated that diuresis produced by feeding 5% glucose rendered mice susceptible to acute ascending pyelonephritis with Escherichia coli. We reported the use of this model in therapeutic studies of E. coli (2) and Proteus mirabilis (3) pyelonephritis. The present investigation, a bacteriologic, immunologic, and pathologic study of long-term infection with E. coli shows...

Behavior of eosinophil leukocytes in acute inflammation. I. Lack of dependence on adrenal function.

Acute infection is accompanied by a characteristic reduction in circulating eosinophils. This study examined the generally held assumption that the eosinopenia of infection is a manifestation of adrenal stimulation. Trichinosis, Escherichia coli pyelonephritis, and early subcutaneous pneumococcal abscess were used as experimental infections of limited severity. Trichinosis is associated with eo...

Experimental group B streptococcal infections in mice: hematogenous virulence and mucosal colonization.

A group B streptococcus recovered from a blood specimen from a neonate with sepsis was used to evaluate the use of mice for studies characterizing the hematogenous virulence and the asymptomatic mucosal colonization of the vagina or of the respiratory tract by these bacteria. When injected intravenously, the 50% lethal dose for mice was 10(6); however, as few as 10(2) organisms produced septic ...

Experimental Pyelonephritis. IX. The Bacteriological Course and Morphological Consequences of Staphylococcal Pyelonephritis in the Rat, with Consideration of the Specificity of the Pathological Changes Observed

Although coliform bacteria are the organisms most commonly recovered from the urine of patients with pyelonephritis, they seldom cause infection in the absence of some kind of renal injury.' These bacteria are not suitable, therefore, for experiments designed to study alterations of structure and function attributable to infection alone. For these purposes it would seem preferable to employ mic...
